Kayla Layne Crawford is the Pocket Tomboy…OK, I’ll be honest, writing this in third person makes me sound like a pompous d-bag, so I won’t do that. Instead, I’ll tell you that I’m a 20-something art school graduate and MBA dropout who has worked as a professional writer for close to a decade for various ad agencies and magazines. I’ve also “done time” in the entertainment industry as a script doctor (No medical school required), screenwriter, and celebrity client representative (Put the coffee pot on, I have stories). You know how people always make that joke about how nobody looks at porno magazines or websites for the articles? Well, I even had a job writing for one of those websites; under a nom de plume, of course.
But let’s get to the meat (or Seitan) of things. I’m a Gender Nonconforming person (They/Them/Their) who just so happens to be passionate about menswear and does fashion consulting. Sure, lots of Non binary, Transmasculine, or other folx in the queer community are passionate about menswear, however I’m what I’ve dubbed “pocket sized” meaning I’m standing at a cool 5-foot-nada. Blame my genetics or the fact that my Italian grandmother would give me espresso as a toddler, but needless to say it’s sometimes difficult to navigate the world of menswear when clothes are made to fit David Beckham rather than Danny Devito. Is this a space for only short, masculine queers? Of course not! I decided to start this space for people who love fashion, use fashion as a political statement, or simply need a bit of inspiration for their closet.
